Periphery
Works For
Me,
While Your
Eyes Are
Stalking
Me.
I Keep My
Eyes
Straight
Ahead
If You
Look-
You’ll
See
They’re
Red.
Racing
Thoughts
Dart Through
My
Mind.
IF I’m
Caught,-
WILL THEY
Find?-
Look
For
THE
EXIT
on the
STREET.
Moving
Quickly
on my
Feet.
SIRENS
Roar.
PEOPLE
Stare.
If I
Yell
WILL They
Care??
Cursing
What I
Chose to
Wear,
Because I
Sought
To
HAVE
Some
Flair.
Looking
Forward
To
THE
Day-
When
Legs and
Heels,
Does
NOT
Mean
“Play.”
RUN
TOWARDS
THE
BUS!-
It’s
Made
A
Stop.-
Hoping
There
Will
Be
A
Cop!
I
Climb
Aboard.
I
Want
to
Hide.
I
REFUSE
to
Let
Them
See I’ve
Cried.
My
Face
is
Hot.
I
Feel
My
Sweat.
I
HATE it
WHEN-
I’m
Called,
“A
Pet.”
If I
Sink
DOWN-
In My-
Seat,
MAYBE-
Time Will
Just
Retreat.
Go Back to
Times of
Long
Ago-
When
Lack of
Toys
Would Be
My
Woe.
I
Arrive-
HERE,
At my
House.
I
Stop
Outside. —
To
Tell-
My-
Spouse???
This Poem was written to start the conversation about what is and what ISN’T acceptable in those “hard to classify,” read between the lines, grey areas of the law, when it is hard to “classify” if a crime was “really” committed, and the shame, self-loathing and torture a person may put themselves through, because… from THEIR perspective, they were not hurt “ENOUGH” in order to Speak Up and Share their truth, and INSTEAD, they Suffer… in… Silence.
